PIDMA function block – PID controller with autotuner

Shortly after its foundation, REX Controls developed a highly reliable pulsed PID autotuner (PIDMA) based on a non-standard three-parameter set-based process model that never fails for linear processes with a monotonic step response. This condition is approximately satisfied by almost all processes involving temperature, pressure, concentration, or level control, and many others. The PIDMA function block is implemented in the REXYGEN control system.

The PIDMA function block is part of the optional “Autotuning Controllers” module of the REXYGEN system, which can be purchased at our e-shop.

REX Controls has licensed the complete PID controller algorithm with a built-in autotuner, its C-language implementation, and a convenient tool for automatic controller tuning. These products have already been supplied to major companies that manufacture and/or deliver industrial controllers and control systems, such as West Control Solutions (Germany), ZAT, TECO, and Jablotron (Czech Republic).

PIDMAX function block – PID controller with enhanced autotuner

PIDMAX (PIDMA eXtended) is a newly developed PID controller function block with automatic parameter tuning, extending the functionality of the previously developed PIDMA block by adding the possibility to select the tuning objective. The user can choose whether the controller should be designed for the best setpoint tracking (servo mode), for the best disturbance rejection (regulator mode), or for a compromise between these two criteria. The last mode corresponds to the controller design used in the original PIDMA block.

The research and development of the new PID controller with autotuner, PIDMAX, was supported by the project “Automatic Tuning of Controllers in (Nuclear) Power Engineering.” The development of the PIDMAX block utilised the previously developed PID H Designer tool by REX Controls.
